Every sip of Mabroc Tea makes a difference to the lives and well-being of the plantation community; every cup makes a difference because their ethical tea is not just another corporate cliché. The ‘Home for Every Plantation Worker’ programme centers on how to make a positive difference in the betterment of the lives of those who work hard to bring you the best teas in the world. It is a commitment made by the Mabroc Kelani Valley Plantations to embark on a journey to improve the lives of the plantation communities. This covers aspects such as:
Living Environment
This programme helps build homes for the workers or improvements to existing houses with water supply and sanitation projects, electrification projects, building of access Roads, Playgrounds and other infrastructure projects.

Health & Nutrition
Each family is assisted through continued pre-school, child support and medical facilities to enhance their quality of life. Medical care in the form of indoor treatment of patients, immunization coverage, nutritional intervention, free feeding for infants and children, child development centers, post & antenatal clinics and special projects including health camps and eye clinics are carried out.

Community and Capacity Building
This programme empowers each employee through Estate Worker Co-operatives and enhances the individual’s value to the community. Pre school and nursery education for children up to 5 years is provided according to recommended syllabus, recreation activities including track & field meets and cricket matches for team building and estate workers housing co-operatives and other micro-financing facilities are organized.

Empowerment of Community
This programme also places special emphasis on training and guidance of youth, empowering them with better life skills. Monitoring of child development from ages 5 to 16, according to ILO standards, projects for skill-building, including vocational training, computer classes, guidance and assistance for higher education and gender equity programmes are conducted.

The ultimate goal is a contented family life for all at Kelani Valley Plantations.
